SABAHANS KNOW SABAH WOES BETTER

WE are University students and young professional adults. We believe in education and unity. We call ourselves the Voice of Sabahan or Vosion.

We are united because of the current issues affecting not only us but our future future generations. We also have no connection to any political group.

There are two issues we wish to highlight - electricity and the MyKad problem. Power is most important for a State to become industrial. Not only that, it will indirectly improve the villages lifestyles and decide whether a company wants to invest or not. Erratic electricity supply could affect industries badly in term of profit and schedule.

In this connection, the proposed coal-fired plant might be the easy way since TNB has so many in p'sula. But that'snot the only way. We could do something better such as building a hydro or gas-based plant. We might have no choice but a coal fired plant in future but if we have any reason to delay it is good enough.

We never know what will happen in future but we can predict and plan for it. This will give us time to explore more option and try to avoid having any coal-fired plant.

SESB will always be blamed if there is any blackout. We know they are doing their part. Why blame them when we experienced blackouts also due to cable thieves.

The MyKad issue is an old one but without any solution. Replacing the JPN Chairman in Sabah will not promise any solution. We the young generation (born 80s), and the generation before us, still remember the clean Sabah and no MyKad (or so-called Kad Pengenalan) issue during our childhood. We still recall how we lived in harmony and without worries of any break-in.

But a major mistake was allowed to happen and we let them become more and more in Sabah after the PBS pullout from BN in 1990.

Why do we have to suffer for a mistake done (not by us) in the past? That is why today, we will raise our concern for the future generation. With due respect to our MPs, YBs, and the Federal Government, we ask if they really understand what we suffer in Sabah?

The JPN must overhaul from the bottom up. Also only we know who really are locals.

Many Sabahan choose to work in peninsula or abroad because of lack of opportunity in their hometowns. These people are assets and Government should give attention to them. I believe that our people can be trained even though their degree or background may not be one majoring in administration for admin work. Give them an opportunity at higher level. Most Sabahans nowadays are as good as those from peninsula.

Someone who is born in Sabah knows the problems better than those who are not. We know how our people work, culture, adat, etc. We need experts to monitor work progress but not forever. Why should they come here to work while our people are jobless? For example, do we really not have any Sabahan to become Guru Besar / Pengetua?

We, must get the needed experienced fast, we are now far behind other states in Malaysia. Getting our people into the top positions is one of the wiser steps.

So government departments must be entrusted to local Sabahans, a complete overhaul is a must.
Sabahans should not suffer like the 78-year -old Yong Lee Hua who was downgraded from local bumiputra to foreigner problems on birth certificates under Section 10, although the couples have undergone a valid wedding under Ketua Kampong.

The leader who represents the peopl e Sabah, especially from the KDM community, must fight for their people since we are losing our identity.
